A preserved terroir for responsible, authentic wines

A Sustainable Commitment at the Heart of Our Estate

At Château La Valetanne, our approach to sustainability is based on a harmonious balance between tradition and innovation. Certified organic (ECOCERT), we cultivate our vines with respect for biodiversity and the soil, while working towards a more responsible future.

Responsible Resource Management

We adopt rigorous practices to optimize the use of natural resources. Right from the planting stage, we limit the number of vines per hectare, and we use a well-reasoned drip system to avoid wasting water. Grass between the rows and spring mowing reduce water competition and evaporation, while improving soil water retention.

Respect for the Earth and the Environment

We respect sustainable agricultural practices to protect biodiversity and maintain the quality of our soils. We use only products that comply with organic regulations, such as sulfur and copper to combat fungal diseases and Bacillus Thuringiensis to control grape worms. Our fertilizers are certified organic, and we encourage tillage and grassing to stimulate natural biodiversity.

To preserve local flora and fauna, we maintain the surrounding hedges and welcome sheep in winter to naturally maintain the plots.

Sustainable Logistics and Distribution

Day after day, we strive to reduce our carbon footprint by finding appropriate solutions to limit the environmental impact of our wine distribution. This commitment is in line with our vision of a value chain that respects the environment and is aligned with our customers’ expectations.

Sustainable wine tourism

Château La Valetanne has been awarded the “Vignobles et Découvertes” label and offers a unique wine tourism experience, combining education and respect for the terroir. We share with our visitors our commitment to preserving the environment and promoting Provence’s winegrowing heritage.

Adding value to surpluses

Any surplus production is sent to a distillery, where it is recycled as medical alcohol. This circular approach reflects our commitment to responsible, sustainable resource management.

Attention to detail for a perfect harvest !

The harvest

The art of harvesting

Harvesting begins with the early grape varieties, and is carried out at night to preserve the freshness of the grapes. Each stage, from rapid transport to the winery to sanitary inspection of the bunches, guarantees optimum quality. Grapes are pressed, fermented or macerated, depending on the type of wine. Rigorous monitoring and regular tastings ensure balanced, aromatic wines, with particular attention paid to hygiene and barrel ageing for reds.

An intense period

The harvest is a unique moment, marked by the commitment of our teams and the challenges of the climate, which now bring forward the harvest dates to mid-August.

Meticulous preparation

Our teams carefully monitor each plot, analyzing sugar levels and acidity, and tasting the berries. Using a refractometer and paying close attention to the weather, we harvest grapes at perfect maturity.
